Fashion Designer Extraordinaire, Betsey Johnson
What do you think of when you hear the name, Betsey Johnson? Do you think of the brightly colored, quirky, and eclectic designs incorporated into her jewelry, clothing, shoe and purse lines? Or do you often think, as I do, of the lovable and talented 71 year-old designer with the ability to grace the end of the runway with her signature cartwheel and split? Side Note: I pray that I am fit and lively enough to do cartwheels and splits when I am 71 years-old.
I have been a huge fan of Betsey Johnson since I was in high school. I remember her beautiful, frilly cocktail length dresses with hot pinks and reds and soft pastel hues. Therefore, when I heard that Betsey was visiting the Metro Detroit area, I was ecstatic at the idea of being able to attend a VIP meet and greet event with the renowned designer. Without further ado, here is the sneak peek into Eclectic Chic’s meeting with Betsey Johnson.
Shop This Look
For this special event last weekend, I chose to wear a sleek, black Bar III dress. I typically buy dresses in small and x-small. However, this off the shoulder bell-sleeve design in xx-small comfortably and snuggly hugged my hips and curves, while showing off my neckline. There was no tugging or readjusting this dress throughout the day. It was perfect for taking photos with one of my favorite designers.

I paired this look with a pair of enticing fringe Geriwia earrings from Aldo. Aldo is my absolute favorite store to purchase accessories from. You will often see me at the Somerset Collection Aldo store, last minute, looking for cute earrings or a flirty handbag for a date night or special event.
Finally, I had to top the look off with Betsey Johnson’s own Jaime multicolored strappy heels. Between seeing my signature black and white stripes positioned effortlessly on the stiletto heel, and the blooming flowers placed on top, I knew they had to be mine. Not to mention that they’re really comfy, too. I wore these on a recent Saturday date night where I salsa danced the night away.

Getting A Big Hug From Betsey Johnson
Have you ever met a celebrity in person, and was disappointed to find out that the figure of your admiration is a complete jerk? That’s a real dream crusher, right? Well, my encounter with Betsey Johnson was not like that at all. Betsey was so warm, outgoing and genuine. I absolutely enjoyed chatting with her and sharing the specific designs that I have loved of hers over the years.
Despite one of her team members (a brunette woman dressed in a denim jacket, black pants and a white shirt…you know who you are) being very rude and abrasive, Betsey was so kind and gracious. She took the time to sign my fuchsia travel hat box with a metallic gold pen, and joked by saying, “sorry for ruining it” before letting out a playful chuckle. I felt like I had known her forever. Thank you so much, Betsey, for making my day!
Bows Galore!!!
I absolutely love the way that Betsey features bows on a lot of her purses, totes and backpacks. A couple of years ago, for Christmas, I received a Betsey Johnson bow tote with a cream base and a big, black bow on the front. I lost track of how many compliments I got from men and women of all ages when I wore my bow tote. Take a look at the Betsey Johnson bags featured below, and see if there are any that catch your fancy. Just wanted to remind you all again that I get commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post below. Happy shopping!
