Do you know what February 9th is? It might be one of my favorite holidays, other than Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, and my birthday, of course. National Pizza Day is a holiday to be recognized like any other. In this Eclectic Chic exclusive, we’re going to give you a recap of how I celebrated National Pizza Day and an overview (in no particular order) of Eclectic Chic’s top favorite pizzerias. Enjoy!
I know these are fighting words…but I’m going to say them anyways. “Michigan has the best pizza ever”! I repeat, “Michigan has the best pizza ever”! There, I said it. Whew! There is no question or doubt about it. Even though I’m working the Toledo Auto Show right now, I walked in the freezing cold to support my Michigan-based pizzeria. Pizza Papalis, a Detroit-based pizzeria, has some of the best deep dish pizza ever! I ordered a delicious Spinach and Mushroom pizza…it’s a balanced meal if your veggies are on your pizza, you know. Haha!
Pure Perfection!
Without further ado, in no particular order, here are Eclectic Chic’s top favorite places to satisfy our pizza craving. Here we go!
Pizza Papalis
You can’t go wrong with any of their deep dish pizzas. However, if you are a seafood lover, the Seafood Combo will Rock. Your. World! With big, juicy pieces of shrimp and crab meat embedded in this pizza pie, it is sheer bliss with every bite!

Jet’s Pizza
This is the pizza place that I think of when I want a good square pizza. There is no one like them. Shout out to the employees of the Birmingham, MI location. The Birmingham Jet’s employees are polite and have consistently provided the best costumer service. Two thumbs up!
Hungry Howie’s Pizza
Great round pizzas with fresh bread and ingredients every time! The sprinkled parmesan and butter crust is delicious!
Green Lantern
This is where being cheesy is a good thing. Green Lantern has the cheesiest deep dish square pizza. Not to mention their thick cheesy bread with marinara dipping sauce is one of the few places where I don’t mind filling up on the cheese bread. It’s too good to pass up.
Papa Romano’s
There was a Papa Romano’s near the non-profit that I used to work for. Even though on paper, I was working 40 hours a week, I would end up typically working overtime that would add up to a 50 hour week…glad my life is not like that anymore. Anyways, the ladies who worked at the Auburn Hills Papa Romano’s would add a nice smile to my usually stressful days! The single slices were hot, fresh and delicious…and able to be eaten quickly in my car in between going to home-based therapy sessions. Their Grilled Italian Chicken sub is also really good and filling. They never once forgot my requested side of banana peppers that added a nice pop of flavor to the already flavorful and satisfying meal.
Side Note: If you are looking for a good pizza pie for this Valentine’s Day, Papa Romano’s offers an exclusive heart-shaped pizza. Nothing says “I love you” like a great pizza pie.
Happy’s Pizza
Happy’s Pizza is the only pizza place where I enjoy a single-topping pizza. It’s just that good! It doesn’t take much to enjoy their pizza. I have wonderful memories of picking up a pizza from Happy’s with my mom and cousin, and going over to Belle Isle for a picnic during the summertime. Whether it’s a single-topping pepperoni or sausage pizza, you will love this pizza.
That’s all! This list is worth more than gold…but, I love my Eclectic Chic readers so much that I wanted to share it with you all. What are some of your favorite pizza places? What about favorite toppings? Comment below and share your ideas! If you end up trying any of the pizzerias I have mentioned above, be sure to give Eclectic Chic a shout out for the referral! If you have not done so already, be sure to slice some time out of your schedule to enjoy a piece of pizza, or two. Have a wonderful day!
